Le Domestique Training

While Our Train & Race packages, challenges and events are open to and achievable by all levels of keen cyclist, it is our firm belief that investing in your training is the number one way to increase both your cycling performance and enjoyment. This is true regardless of whether you are considering signing up to your first sportive, are undertaking a multi-day challenge such as the Raid Pyrenees, Raid Alpine or King of the Mountains, or even venturing into the world of racing or time-trialling. So while it can be tempting to upgrade your bike or wheels in the pursuit of marginal gains, focussing your endeavours on getting the advice, support and expertise you need to help you maximise your limited training time is by far the best strategy.

Why choose Le Domestique Training?

Experience – Le Domestique Training is headed up by owner of Le Domestique Robert Cartledge, a qualified personal trainer and long time cycling coach with a wealth of experience training riders for a huge variety of events and challenges and a personal riding CV that covers off almost every form of endurance cycling including the Race Across America. This background, together with the huge experience gained from successfully guiding and advising hundreds of Le Domestique clients and running countless tours, has given Robert a unique understanding of the common mistakes, myths and problems that amateur riders encounter while training.
Expertise – With a highly detailed understanding of the science behind cycling and human performance, Robert is able to relate the often complex and infuriating scientific realities that underpin heart rate and power based training methods in a simple, jargon free and easy to understand manner. Integral to this philosophy is Robert’s desire to ensure that clients fully understand the science, background and reason for everything he asks them to do, developing their own knowledge and enabling them to take ownership of their performance.
Bespoke – All of Robert’s plans are 100% bespoke and designed from scratch for each individual client based on their unique circumstances, goals and schedules. Le Domestique Training does not supply template plans, generic sessions or copy and paste programmes.
Real world – Robert’s background as a solicitor in the City of London, gives real world personal experience of balancing an extremely busy and volatile job and family life, together with dedicated training, far away from perfect schedules and enviable weekend epic rides that many coaches expect riders to execute. This direct experience gives Robert the experience and understanding to schedule sessions appropriately, adapt the best case training scenario to the real world and relate to clients on a level that many other coaches simply cannot do.
Client focussed – Le Domestique Training is founded on the same principles that underpin the success of Le Domestique Tours, with our sole focus being on the satisfaction of our clients. To that end we restrict the number of riders being coached at any one time to ensure that every rider is able to receive Robert?s undivided attention and time, that ensures they receive prompt and in-depth responses to any communications, fully bespoke plans and above all, a highly personalised relationship that goes far beyond the strict remit of a cycling coach.

Is Le Domestique Training for me?

Whether you are new to riding, have been riding for many years but have reached a plateau, or are targeting an event that currently feels beyond you, the outside input and experience of Le Domestique Training is the number one way to improve your performance and take your cycling to the next level. So while it may feel strange that you are considering hiring a cycling coach as an amateur hobby cyclist, the reality is that it is no different to using a personal trainer, accountant or any other form of professional that provides additional expertise to help you achieve your goals.
