Mallorca 312 Sportive – Your Winter Training Target

Sunshine, smooth roads, alpine esque climbs all sound truly appealing to a northern hemisphere cyclist who is just getting out of the dark depths of winter and into spring training mode. For others, it signifies the first major event of the year and what all the hours on the turbo have been about over the past few months. It is of course the Mallorca 312 sportive, a sportive that tackles both the mountainous terrain of Mallorca along with the coastal roads of the island, culminating in one incredible day on the bike.

The distance might sound daunting and looking at the route on paper, it certainly does sound frightening. But it provides any rider with a target event to work towards over the winter. Instead of just spending hours on the turbo this winter with no goal in mind, why not aim for a spring sportive such as the Mallorca 312 sportive. It which will allow you to have a set goal, plenty of time to work towards the goal and knowing that you’ll be the one coming out of winter in the best shape and prepared come April 30th for the big ride.

With a strong focus nowadays from the cycling community on structured training, coaching and maximising your available time on the bike, an end goal is the ideal way to make sure this happens. Providing your coach with a goal such as the Mallorca 312 sportive or even the shorter 167km sportive distance will allow them to write a plan that is appropriate for you and is designed in such a way to best prepare for the event. Whether you are aiming to set a time for the event, or just complete the course inside the time cut off (similar concept to the Etape), your training plan will be able to be adjusted to take this into consideration.

The route is balanced from the testing climbs of the north western corner of the island, to the undulating grounds of the southern eastern corner of the route and over the 312km of the long course taking in 4000m, it provides challenges for all level of cyclist. Seen by many as the ideal sportive course for both elevation involved in the course, but also for the early part of the course which sees several categorised climbs and a route profile often seen with the Etape later on in the year. With the iconic climbs of Mallorca being featured in the route such a Puig Major and Coll de Femenia it is a rare opportunity to see all your hardwork over winter pay off in one incredible days riding, which would have you set up for the months ahead.

Le Domestique’s 312 package offers the rider two options, a full week in Mallorca spent preparing for the ride, allowing riders to ride the key climbs and segments of the course before the event. While those who are a little more time poor there is our half-week option which will still allow you the time to get your bearings on the island, view the key sectors of the ride and rest to ensure that you are ready for the ride on the Saturday.
