The 2016 Season So Far – Le Domestique Tours
Le Domestique Tours Season 2016
While our scheduled tours are easily found through the relevant tour pages, we also deliver a huge amount of tours through our Bespoke (where we design a tour for you from scratch) and Private (where we offer one of our standard tours on private dates open solely to a group of friends, clubmates or colleagues) services, which are never listed on our site. So we thought we would shed some light on just what the Le Domestique Tours team have been up to so far in the 2016 season, before the high mountain season kicks off with gusto in June.
3 March – Bespoke Tour of Flanders Day Trip with Johan Museeuw – Early in March we braved the cold winter conditions and completed the first of our day trips, this time with a very special guest, the Lion of Flanders Johan Museeuw. A very select group of riders were invited to this day, which provided unfettered access to one of the Spring Classics’ greatest riders. This day trip was later featured in an article by Felix Lowe in Outdoor Fitness magazine.
5 March – Private Tour of Flanders Day Trip with Pedalling Gear – Our standard Tour of Flanders day trip, this time offered to a private group of customers of the superb custom bike builder/shop Pedalling Gear. Proprietor Dave used this unique marketing opportunity to build stronger relations with his chosen customers, while allowing them to sample some of his newest products including the new Open Gravel frames.
6 March – Private Tour of Flanders Day Trip with N+1 – We returned to Flanders the following day with a group of 18 hardy customers of N+1 Bike and Coffee Shop, situated close to Brighton Station. Despite some challenging weather, proprietor Dan was able to build on his shop’s excellent community feel and share an incredible experience with his dedicated customers.
12 March – Scheduled Tour of Flanders Day Trip – A scheduled tour this time that anybody could join through our website. The weather was incredible and our group of 12 had an amazing day tackling the cobbles of Flanders, all for just £99.
16 – 20 March – Bespoke Mallorca Training Camp – Early season in Mallorca is a fantastic place to be, particularly if you are staying in one of the best villas on the island with your own dedicated team of guides, a private chef and have had your bikes transferred from the UK and back by Le Domestique. Our group of five riders were making their second Bespoke trip to Mallorca and had a fantastic time in the mountains of the Tramuntana, with zero hassle. Arrive as hand luggage passengers, with your fully built bike waiting for you and hit Sa Calobra.
19 – 26 March – Scheduled Mallorca Training Camp – Our first scheduled training camp of the year was next up, with riders having a week of challenging, structured riding on the glorious roads of the island. Based out of our own private villa, with built in coaching sessions such as our descending masterclass, riders could settle in and get a taste of the pro cyclist lifestyle.
8 – 10 April – Scheduled Paris-Roubaix Race Weekend – Combining the opportunity to ride the full sportive route on the Saturday and watch the pro action unfold live on the cobbles, this is one of the best ways a cyclist can spend two days. Despite the sportive’s monster reputation our unique industry leading support service ensured our riders were never more than a few minutes from their own dedicated support van. All riders finished with zero mechanicals and huge smiles on their faces. The following day we caught the live race action of two cobbled sectors before returning to Calais on the Sunday evening.
8 – 11 April – Bespoke Paris-Roubaix Race Weekend – In addition to the Scheduled package we also ran a Bespoke three night version for a private group consisting of a group that completed the Raid Pyrenean with LDT in September 2015. These riders had the luxury of not needing to get back to the UK on the Sunday night, so chose to extend the weekend by an additional night, allowing them to catch one of the greatest Paris-Roubaix finales in recent memory live from the fabled Velodrome having earlier witness the riders on one cobbled sector.
24 April – Private Paris-Roubaix Day Trip – A private group of friends undertook our unique Paris-Roubaix day trip experience, tackling the final 100km of Paris-Roubaix on the empty cobbles, with the full back up and support of an expert local guide rider and two support vehicles. The Paris-Roubaix weather hit hard but the group rode incredibly well, finishing their day with the famous 1.5 laps of the velodrome and a well earned beer, before being returned to the UK in our class leading transfer vehicles.
27 April – 1 May – Scheduled Mallorca 312 – One of the cycling world’s fastest growing events, our scheduled 312 package gave riders the full benefit of our unrivalled supported race support service, with the hassle free nature of our own approved operator package including race entry.
9 – 15 May – Bespoke Cote d’Azur – A true luxury package and a demonstration of the incredibly high standard our Bespoke service can offer, this week was designed for five wealthy business owners who had recently taken up cycling. Raising in excess of £250,000 for Alderney Children’s Hospital our group rode like seasoned pros, as ever supported through the event by a combination of guide rider and vehicle support. Our Bespoke service stepped up mid week, when a plan was hatched to shorten the tour by 1 day in length, while keeping to their previously targeted distance goal. We accommodated the group’s request overnight, redesigning three days of riding, locating suitably high standard alternate hotels and coordinating all the other logistics, to produce a flawless end product.
18 – 22 May – Scheduled Calpe Roads Less Ridden – An absolute highlight on our calendar, the mountains inland from Calpe offer the holy grail for any true cyclist – perfect road surfaces, absolutely no traffic and beautiful weather. Staying in the pro team’s hotel of choice the Diamante Beach Spa, our riders were able to ride hard and recover in comfort. In the words of one guest “This is a cycling playground”.
27 – 29 May – Scheduled Club des Cingles du Mont-Ventoux – Tackling the three ascents of Mont-Ventoux in one day is the focus of this long weekend, with plucky riders seeking to join one of the most exclusive clubs in all of amateur cycling. Again Le Domestique Tours’ unrivalled support service made all the difference, with riders able to focus on the riding without fear of being left stranded without water, warm clothing or anything else they may require.
Honourable Mentions – The Le Domestique Tours team have also been busy researching and visiting a huge number of Bespoke and new tours that will be taking place in the coming months, with highlights including a Bespoke Girona to Bordeaux challenge, our soon to be announced Girona Ride with the Professionals packages, Liege-Bastogne-Liege recon, multiple tours in Provence/Cote d’Azur and even a trip to Transylvania!
We have also been working hard on a rebrand, taken delivery of two new industry leading support vehicles, a fleet of Ritte Ace rental bikes on much much more, all of which will ensure that our guests have the best experience possible.
